Chef Carrie Hegnauer

Carrie Hegnauer has been a Senior Culinary Instructor with Johnson & Wales University for more than 20 years. She is also a graduate of JWU with an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Service Management, graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors.

Chef Hegnauer holds an FMP (Food Management Professional) designation from the National Restaurant Association, a CHE (Certified Hospitality Educator) designation from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute and two advanced certificates with WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust). She has long been the Faculty Advisor for the JWU Oenology Society.

While still a Johnson & Wales University undergrad student, Chef Carrie founded Black Tie Servers, Inc. in Virginia providing professionally trained servers, bartenders and cooks to high-end caterers and event planners. She was featured in the cover story of Hampton Roads Woman Magazine for her unique entrepreneurial spirit.

Chef Hegnauer has been profiled by several publications including features in Vibrant Living Magazine and SouthPark Magazine as well as appearing on the cover of Today’s Charlotte Woman Magazine. Chef Hegnauer has appeared frequently on The Charlotte Today Show and FOX News Rising. She has been a featured chef for Time Warner Cable’s “Cooking With Johnson and Wales” and hosted a twelve segment “Culinary Classroom” series on Time Warner Cable’s Carolina on Demand channels 199 and 1047.

Because of her on-camera experience, personality and humor Chef Carrie was selected by Johnson & Wales University to appear with celebrity chef Paula Deen in an event honoring Smithfield and Food Lion corporate sponsors and sweepstakes winners.

An experienced public speaker, Chef Carrie recently spoke at the Charlotte League of Extraordinary Women event and was a keynote speaker at the Dove Movement for Self Esteem. She has been selected as a featured speaker for the Regional Lilly Conference on College and University Teaching Carrie is a dedicated mom who returned to college in her 30’s to pursue her culinary passion and who just celebrated her seventh year of cancer free living after being diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in 2006.

She and her husband Dave co-founded The City Kitch™, Charlotte’s premier commercial rental kitchen facility, in 2014.

She is involved with Mecklenburg Community Church’s “Compassion Team” and various giving programs in the community.
